Bahrain - Bahraini Kebabs

Updated: Jun 15, 2021

Vegetable fritters

Aneri's note: Have you seen the movie The Princess and the Marine? This was the first time I heard about this country and the movie was so wonderful. It’s about a sheltered Bahranian princess who falls in love with a marine stationed there and she pretends to be a marine to elope and escapes. It’s a true story! Sadly the couple divorced- it’s hard for a princess to live on a base!

Bahraini Kebabs

Difficulty Level (1-10): 6

Bahraini Kebabs are pretty similar to Indian pakodas. Chickpea flour makes this a delightful fried vegetable appetizer.

Ingredients:

Chickpea flour - 1 cup

Spring onion - 1/4 cup, minced

Red onion - 1/4 cup, minced

Tomato - 1/4 cup, minced

Baking powder - 1/4 tsp

Garam masala - 1 pinch

Green chili - 1, minced

Garlic - 1 clove, minced

Water - 1/2 cup

Salt - 1/4 tsp

Vegetable oil - 1 cup

Recipe:

1. Mix chickpea flour, garam masala, baking powder, salt in a bowl.

2. Pour in water, mix until smooth

3. Add tomatoes, onions, garlic and chili to the batter. Cover and put in refrigerator for 30 min

4. Put the oil in a wok and heat up. Put a TB of batter and fry. Remove and place on paper towels to soak up the oil.

5. Enjoy!

This recipe was inspired by recipe book, food and tools.
